North West's 'Lion King' Costume Was Her Own Outfit, Production Confirms They Didn't Provide It

North West made her Hollywood Bowl debut over the weekend in Disney’s 30th anniversary celebration of The Lion King and new details have been revealed about the outfit she wore.

The 10-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West wore a yellow sweatshirt and matching shorts with yellow furry slippers for her role as young Simba.

North performed the song “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” in front of 16,000 people and the performance will be immortalized in the Disney+ taping, which will be released at a later date.

North‘s appearance in the production has faced backlash for nepotism amid reports that several children went through an audition process for the role. It’s unclear if North had to audition or not.

The costume that North wore also faced some backlash as it looked amateur compared to the Broadway-style costumes worn by the ensemble members who danced around her.

A spokesperson for the production confirmed to People that the costume was provided by North and her team, not by the production. Jennifer Hudson and Jeremy Irons also provided their own clothes for the show.

The fashion brand ERL confirmed that they designed the costume.
