Not A Fan? Backstage WWE Reaction To Swerve Strickland’s New AEW Deal, What It Could Lead To

It could be better. There have been all kinds of changes to the wrestling world in recent years and some of the most important have been due to the introduction of AEW. After such a long time of WWE dominating the wrestling industry, there is now another rather well paying wrestling promotion out there. This has led to wrestlers getting quite the paydays, and now we know how one of them is being received elsewhere.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Swerve Strickland had signed a new deal with AEW, making him one of the highest paid wrestlers in the company. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE was hoping to acquire both Strickland and his manager Prince Nana at one point. While the deal is said to be one of the biggest in AEW, it still puts him behind top WWE names such as Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. There is a thought among WWE sources that this is bad for business, as AEW paying wrestlers more will lead to salaries being raised across the board. It is not yet clear if this will be the case.

Opinion: While I get the idea of WWE not being happy with the move, there is quite a bit to be happy here for the wrestlers. There is so much money in wrestling these days that it is almost ridiculous to believe that wrestlers are overpaid. Giving them a bigger piece of what is out there is great to see, especially when WWE is already willing to pay its top stars that much more in the first place.
