A group of Newcastle United fans are set to hold a protest against the Newcastle United owners at St James’ Park.
With the ‘NUFC Against Sportswashing’ group organising the protest.
It will take place on the day of the Newcastle United v Sheffield United match.
That Premier League game is a 3pm kick-off on Saturday 27 April.
This group appealing to Newcastle United fans:
‘Will you support the match day protest on April 27th – in solidarity with Salma al-Shehab, a Leeds Uni Phd student serving 27 years in prison for retweeting in favour of women’s rights and free speech?
“We are calling on fans to hold up posters in the 27th minute of the game.’
Meanwhile, this protest group have also demanded that local councillors and MPs take action, including renaming a street near to St James’ Park…
“NUFC Fans Against Sportswashing calls on Newcastle City Council and Tyneside MPs to make good on pre-takeover commitments to hold the Saudi regime which owns 80% of Newcastle United to account re their gross human rights abuses.
“Many people are asking; why have Newcastle City Council and (Tyneside) MPs not held the Saudi state to the same standards as China regarding human rights abuses?”
