In an official statement, FC Barcelona have announced that young defender Alejandro Balde is all set to undergo surgery to treat the hamstring injury he sustained earlier this week.
“Tests show that first team player Alejandro Balde has an injury to the tendon in his right hamstring,” the statement read.
“In the coming days he will undergo a surgical procedure at the hands of Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the Club’s medical staff, in Turku, Finland. Once the procedure has been carried out a new statement will be released.”
Balde suffered his injury during the first half of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey quarter-final clash against Athletic Club earlier this week.
Just 20 minutes into the contest, the 20-year-old had to be taken off by manager Xavi Hernandez, with the left-back leaving the pitch in tears.
Soon after it emerged that a surgery might be needed which would mean the end of the season for Balde. And after some deliberation, the La Masia graduate has opted for surgical intervention to treat his injury.
As such, he may well have played his last game of the season while his involvement for the UEFA Euro 2024 during the summer is also under doubt.
Wishing Balde a speedy recovery!
