Official: Barcelona’s salary cap drops to €204 million from €270 million in the summer

Today, La Liga announced the salary cap limits for clubs after the culmination of the winter transfer window, and it is not all good news for Barcelona.

As per the official figures released, the Catalan giants’ salary cap has dropped from €270 million in September last year to only €204 million.

Barcelona’s salary cap has been dropping constantly over the past couple of years. This limit was €656 million in September 2022 and €648 million in February 2023, before seeing a huge drop to just €270 million after the summer window.

The salary cap limit is the maximum amount that the club can spend during the season after all the operations carried out in the winter and it will dictate the club’s plans of operation for the next window.

It includes spending on players, the coach, assistant coach, other coaches, and fitness coaches of the first team (eligible squad) and spending on the reserve team, the youth academy, and the other sporting sections.

Salary limits for clubs set by La Liga.

Barcelona brought in Vitor Roque into the squad during the winter transfer window, which was the only major operation carried out, that too utilising the space created by Gavi, who was ruled out for the season through injury.

The Blaugrana also registered Fermin Lopez as a first-team member and handed him the #16 jersey.

It must be noted that, as things stand, Barça’s actual salary bill is around €400 million at this point, much higher the limit that has been set by La Liga. As such, they must reduce the amount if they do not want to be restricted in their ability to sign players next summer.

Recently commenting on the Catalans’ financial situation, La Liga president Javier Tebas said: “It has improved a lot. They have made an effort in their salary bill. I think they still have to make an effort for next season, but they have managed to incorporate good players.”
