An official Newcastle United injury update on Tuesday morning.
Eddie Howe talking to journalists.
The NUFC Head Coach speaking following the weekend’s draw against Brighton.
Plus of course, Eddie Howe hoping to make it four wins in a row (in all competitions) against Manchester United.
A draw or better would guarantee Newcastle finishing above Man U this season.
Eddie Howe injury, illness and availability update ahead of Manchester United match:
Eddie Howe on Alexander Isak:
“Alex didn’t train yesterday (Monday); we will see if he trains today.
“He wasn’t feeling 100% I think you could see that [during the Brighton match].
“We knew on Friday that he was slightly under the weather.”
Eddie Howe on Callum Wilson:
“We haven’t seen Callum yet.
“We will see if he is available to train today, if not we will have him for Brentford.”
Eddie Howe also said that there is a ‘chance’ Fabian Schar could be available on Wednesday night.
Whilst with Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Joelinton and Miguel Almiron, Eddie Howe also giving nothing away.
All four have recently come back from injury and despite the three outfield players having came on as subs against Brighton, Eddie Howe giving nothing away. Saying he doesn’t know whether any of the four would be considered to start against Manchester United, as he has to be cautious as to whether they are in the right condition to start.
So that is seven doubts in total and at least part of this Eddie Howe wanting to keep Man U guessing.
My best guess is that Alexander Isak will be ok to start on Wednesday and I have a feeling both Schar and Almiron will be available as well. With Wilson, Joelinton, Pope and Trippier, I’m not sure as to whether they’ll be considered as potential starters. I didn’t think Joelinton looked anywhere close to 100% on Saturday when coming off the bench after a long absence.
Of those definitely missing for Newcastle United – Sandro Tonali, Lewis Miley, Jamaal Lascelles, Sven Botman, Matt Targett and Joe Willock.
