This is the news of the weekend. Severely defeated at home this Saturday evening against Villarreal with a score of 5 goals 3, Xavi Hernandez announced a few hours after the defeat his departure from the Catalan club at the end of the season.

The Catalan technician, contested for several weeks, will therefore leave his functions at the end of the 2023/2024 financial year.

A decision that is both surprising and logical. FC Barcelona has been experiencing difficulties for several weeks and has alternated between good and bad this season.

“We have reached a point of no return. The club needs change. I spoke with the club and management today and I announce to you that I will leave my position on June 30,” he declared to journalists this Saturday evening.

Before completing: »As a culé, thinking about the club and the players, I think they will free themselves and be calmer. Thinking as a club man, I think the best thing is to leave on June 30th. I will do my best for the remaining four months. »

Champions League objective for Xavi

it’s not in great shape for FC Barcelona at the start of 2024. But all is not lost. If the championship title seems promised to Real Madrid or Girona, the Catalan club still has its destiny in its hands to finish in the top 4 and qualify for the next edition of the C1.

In addition, Barça is still in the Champions League where it will face the Naples club in the round of 16 of the tournament on February 21 and March 12. Xavi Hernandez’s successor should be known in the coming weeks or at the end of the season. To be continued…
