The winter transfer window allows teams to adjust their squad. And this year again, this winter period is likely to have its share of movement, including in Ligue 1. On the side of Olympique de Marseille, the management is very attentive and has never hidden its desire to give Roberto De Zerbi a much more complete squad, especially defensively where the team showed limitations. Once placed in the loft, left back Ulisses Garcia ended up getting playing time in the first part of the season. Same story for Pol Lirola at the right-back position.
The reintegration of the two players into the Marseille group illustrated the defensive weaknesses of the Olympian squad. And OM is therefore looking to strengthen its team this January and is targeting a Chelsea player. According to the Italian press, OM has checked the name of Renato Veiga, a 21-year-old Portuguese left-back. This season, he has played 18 matches with the Blues, notably in the Conference League where he is regularly used by Enzo Maresca. But in this matter, there is competition since the Italian media mainly mentioned an interest from Borussia Dortmund.
OM wants to get ahead of Dortmund
The German club has moved ahead to recover it but OM intends to try their luck until the end. According to the indiscretions of The TeamOM have even started concrete negotiations with the management of the Blues for a transfer of the left side. The English club, which has an XXL squad, is not closed to the idea of parting ways this winter but would like a direct transfer or a loan with a compulsory purchase option, specifies the French daily.
Trained at Sporting and passed through FC Basel and Augsburg, the Portuguese international (3 caps) has never had a full season yet. But his profile greatly appeals to the OM staff who believe that he could well correspond to Roberto De Zerbi's style of play. The 1m90 player, which is rather rare for a left-back, could therefore well leave London this winter. It remains to be seen whether OM will be able to lure him away from Germany…
