One ‘unplayable’ Red could mark a career-first against So’ton, he’s ‘reaching new heights’ under Amorim



If Amad Diallo features against Southampton this evening, which he presumably will, he has the chance to break a personal milestone.

The Ivorian livewire has been Manchester United’s brightest spark this campaign, even more so since Erik ten Hag was relieved of his duties and the youngster was finally granted the game time he deserved.

Goals at the Etihad and Anfield have already set him aside from his attacking counterparts, yet it’s his relentless attacking threat on the pitch that has rendered Amad simply ‘unplayable’ at times. He’s the type of player who gets fans on their feet from the moment he receives the ball and is about to embark on a driving run up the wing, and he does so without being wasteful or skewing the end product.

Tonight, when the Reds host the Saints at Old Trafford, Amad could break double digits in top-flight contributions for the first time since breaking through into the first-team. He is on three Premier League goals and six assists heading into the 8pm clash, and, given that Ivan Juric’s side sit rock-bottom of the table, the odds would certainly be in United’s favour to improve their goal difference.

Amad has been directly involved in 9 goals in his last 12 starts in the Premier League. His next goal involvement will see him hit double figures for the first time in his top flight career.

Amorim knows he can build his team around Amad

Amad dropped out of the starting XI for last Sunday’s FA Cup triumph over Arsenal, with Alejandro Garnacho being restored to the line-up for the first time in six matches. It was, however, only due to a slight injury that the 22-year-old sustained during his spirited showing against Liverpool.

Deemed to be ‘reaching new heights’ under the new boss, Amad recently put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year deal to keep him tied to M16 until 2030. 

“I am really proud to have signed this new contract,” the starlet told club media. “I have had some incredible moments with this club already, but there is so much more to come. I have huge ambitions in the game, and I want to achieve history at Manchester United.”
