Christian Eriksen has confirmed plans to leave Manchester United in the summer.

The Denmark international stresses he isn’t holding talks to remain at Old Trafford at the end of the 2024/25 season.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise because Eriksen was deemed a sellable asset by United in the summer, although no offers were made to secure his signature and he remains at Old Trafford.

Eriksen’s contract is set to expire next summer, and he has dropped a hint that his future is likely to be away from United while on international duty.

The experienced midfielder insists he never considered leaving United in the summer. There was interest from Ajax, Anderlecht and Real Betis – but nothing materialised.

“I had no thoughts about moving on, and I didn’t hear from the club that they wanted to sell me or that I had to leave,” Eriksen told Bold at Denmark’s team hotel in Alicante.

“I really just felt that the family and I were doing really well. If something really exciting came along, or something where I really felt: ‘I want to try this,’ then fair enough, but it wasn’t something that I had to leave.”

After receiving more game time in the lead-up to the October international break – starting in six of United’s seven matches since September – Eriksen admitted he isn’t holding talks with United over a potential extension.

“No, we are not there at the moment [talks about staying put],” Eriksen explained.

He added: “I have one year left, and then we can have another conversation next year when you stand in a different place.”

At 32, Eriksen feels like he can still play regularly for United, which he has done much to our surprise.

Ten Hag can lean on his experience and creativity in the final third, but it must be noted that Eriksen has been lacking in the defensive department.
