Barcelona are facing a delicate situation right now. If the ongoing economic distress, coupled with a series of underwhelming performances this season were not enough, Xavi has announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season.

Barcelona players have remained tight-lipped about the ongoing situation, but Xavi’s decision has indeed sent shockwaves across the dressing rooms.

Gavi was one of the few players who could not hold back tears during Xavi’s dressing room meeting with the players.

Pedri speaks out

Now, Gavi’s midfield partner Pedri has become the first Barcelona player to speak up after Xavi’s announcement.

The youngster urged everyone to move on from the recent events while acknowledging the fact that Xavi’s departure will greatly impact Barça.

“A difficult day for everyone. We have to stop looking for excuses, criticize ourselves, and move forward for the sake of the coach. For the team, for the club and for you,” Pedri said.

Pedri posted this on his social media handles, becoming the first Barcelona player to address the ongoing situation.

This came shortly after President Joan Laporta issued an official statement after Xavi’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season. Others, though, have remained fairly quiet on the matter.

In fact, Barcelona were left quite disappointed with Rafa Marquez, who had admitted his desire to coach the first team following Xavi’s departure. The board considered Marquez’s actions quite childish and inappropriate.

As things stand, Barcelona are going to assess the situation and diagnose the root of the club’s problems that transcend beyond the coaching identities.

It must be noted that Xavi will remain as the head coach until the end of the season. The club, therefore, will look to focus on the remainder of the campaign and perform well, especially in next month’s Champions League encounter against Napoli.
