After failing in their double approach for Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire last summer, West Ham are now planning to return with an opening bid for a new Manchester United target.
While reports have suggested the Irons retain an interest in McTominay, who was greatly admired by ex-manager David Moyes, it’s now a member of United’s defensive contingent who’s caught the eye of Julen Lopetegui.
Indeed, the London outfit are hoping to hash out a deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the coming days as they prepare to test the Reds’ resolve with an initial £15 million proposal.
The 26-year-old had his one-year contract extension activated at the beginning of the year, meaning he is poised to leave as a free agent in June 2025 if he stays at Old Trafford next season. Interested clubs are unlikely to pay a significant fee for his services in the winter window, given that he’ll have just five months of his deal remaining.

Wan-Bissaka could depart Old Trafford after five years
Also being actively pursued by Galatasaray, Wan-Bissaka is one member of the squad United are willing to sell in order to raise funds for more signings – including a direct right-back replacement.
Mail Sport reiterates that the player has ‘fallen behind Diogo Dalot in the pecking order’, leading INEOS chiefs to consider sanctioning his exit.
United forked out £50m to sign Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in 2019, and he has gone on to make 190 appearances in all competitions, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup along the way.
