Rio Ferdinand has pleaded with Lille defender Leny Yoro to accept a deal to join Manchester United.
The former Manchester United centre-back fears the 18-year-old will join Real Madrid, despite Lille accepting an offer from the Reds on Tuesday.
Yoro impressed for Lille last season and is seen as a generational talent across Europe, after helping his side reach the Europa Conference League quarter-finals. Unai Emery’s Aston Villa knocked the French side out of the competition.
Ferdinand begged Yoro to accept United’s offer during the latest episode of Vibe with Five.
Speaking in Germany where Spain beat France at Euro 2024, Ferdinand said: “I think Real Madrid are going to take Yoro instead [of William Saliba]. I would love him to come to Man United.
“If you’re looking Leny Yoro, please accept and come to Man United, please. Man United, please, make the offer and please accept because this kid, I think his ceiling is as high as anybody right now, including Saliba.”
The panel continued the conversation with comparisons between Yoro and Arsenal’s Saliba.
Ferdinand added: “Physically, he’s not as developed or formidable, but he’s a different kind of central defender. He’s quick, and he tries to nibble to get in front, he can play, he’s long, tall, and mobile.”
United have been linked with an array of centre-backs this summer, including Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite.
It looks like the first department United want to focus on improving this summer.
