The Oyo State Police Command on Friday said it had commenced an investigation into the death of a 39-year-old man, Olusegun Tinubu, who was reportedly stabbed to death by his wife, Comfort Tinubu, in Ibadan, the state capital.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed this to our Correspondent over the phone in Ibadan, said the case was under investigation.

“The case is under investigation at the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the command. Updates would be provided accordingly, please,” he said.

Comfort reportedly stabbed her husband to death over a minor disagreement at their Gbeyi-Adegbayi residence in the Egbeda Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.

Investigations by Saturday PUNCH revealed that the deceased had accused his wife of locking him out of their bedroom for no reason.

An informed family source, who preferred anonymity, said, “I got the call around 10:03 p.m. and I learned that they fought and she stabbed him, but he was rushed to the hospital. About 30 minutes later, I was called again that my younger brother was dead.

“When we reported the matter at the police station, she was asked what happened, and she said my younger brother (her late husband) accused her of locking the matrimonial bedroom door since around 7 a.m. when she left the house and returned about 7 p.m.

“She said the matter led to an argument between the two of them but that the fight started when the late husband came to slap her where she was lying down breastfeeding their baby.”

Another family source said, “After settling the fight, she went back to her room, asking the husband to sleep in the living room.”

It was further gathered that Comfort went to attack the husband where he was lying down and stabbed him in the back, with the knife coming out at the front.

The husband was said to have screamed for help, slumped, and was later confirmed dead by the time he got to the hospital.

The matter was initially reported at Gbagi Police Station, but the case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
