'I can't understand'

Everton manager David Moyes believes Liverpool's winning goal should not have stood due to an offside.

Before Diogo Jota weaved through to score, Luis Diaz appeared to impact play from an offside position.

VAR looked at the replays and allowed the goal to stand, much to the frustration of Moyes post-match.

He said to Sky Sports: "The players behind Jarrad interfere with him clearing it. It is an easy decision to give.

"I cannot understand any reason why that wasn't given offside."

Moyes continued to speak about James Tarkowski's tackle, adding: "First thought it was a brilliant tackle for a derby game.

"A tackle we would have seen a few years ago. I understand nowadays things are slightly different with follow-throughs.

"We might have got a bit lucky, don't put that with the goal because the goal was a different incident that won Liverpool the game."

One step closer

Liverpool captain Virgil can Dijk is keeping focused despite moving one step closer to the Premier League title.

Van Dijk told Sky Sports: "Everyone wants to be in our position.

"Now we have to keep going and keep the same mentality as we have been doing all season.

"We have to keep going. We have a tough one again in London on Sunday [against Fulham].

"We stayed in the game and a well deserved three points."

On Tarkowski's controversial tackle, he added: "It is what it is.

"The referee and VAR make decisions and we all have to deal with it."

'No place for it'

talkSPORT's Jason Cundy has given his take on James Tarkowski avoiding a red card at Anfield.

Tarkowski caught Alexis Mac Allister in the calf with his studs as he followed through after a clearance.

The replays showed the nasty challenge in slow motion, but VAR opted to stick with the on-field decision of a yellow card.

Cundy disagrees with the decision and took aim at VAR in his post-match rant, saying: “That is the sort of challenge when I used to play you could get away with.

"As long as you get the ball, the man is irrelevant. You got through the ball and you want to get the man as well.

“That’s an old school challenge. That’s a throwback challenge.

“There’s no place for it in the modern game. It’s a terrible tackle.

"The ball is there to be won, but there is no place for that tackle in the modern game.

“Mac Allister is a lucky boy, and so is Tarkowski.

“That to me is the perfect example of when people say ‘what is the point of VAR?’ It is a terrible tackle, it’s a red card every day of the week and he’s got away with it."

Ruud awakening

It was another woeful night for Leicester.

They've now lost seven games in a row without scoring.

On top of that, the Foxes are now without a clean sheet in their last 23 Premier League games this season.

That's the longest run without a shutout in a single top-flight campaign since a run of 30 for Wolves in 2011-12.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is also now the first manager to lead the same team on two separate seven game losing runs in a top-flight season since Freddie Cox in 1958-59 with Portsmouth.

VAR controversy

We’re back underway in the five earlier kick-offs.

At the Amex, Aston Villa feel they’ve been hard-done-by.

And it’s led to some more VAR controversy, with Jacob Ramsey seemingly being brought down in the box by Jack Hinshelwood.

Ramsey skipped down the left and beat his man before being tripped, however, VAR did not overturn the referee’s decision for no penalty.

A Premier League statement read: “The referee’s call of no penalty to Aston Villa following a challenge by Hinshelwood on Ramsey was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the contact deemed not to reach the threshold for a foul.”
