A hectic afternoon in England. For their first match since the international break, Manchester City first got a scare against Brentford. Taking advantage of a mix-up between Stones and Ederson, Yoanne Wissa nailed the Cityzens to the ground in the 22nd second of play with a header from 6 meters (1st, 0-1). After struggling at the start of the match, Pep Guardiola’s men gradually took control of the game in order to get back into the game thanks to a goal from Haaland, ideally served by De Bruyne to score the equalizer (19th, 1-1).

About ten minutes later, the Norwegian did it again. On a long clearance from Ederson, Haaland managed to go alone on goal by getting rid of Pinnock in midfield. Facing the goalkeeper, the striker chipped his ball to give his team the lead (32nd, 2-1). Continuing their momentum, Manchester City increased the pressure on their opponents, who tried in vain to put back into place the winning play pattern from the start of the match. In the 76th minute of play, Savinho even nearly scored the second goal. Despite a very good service from Gvardiol, the young Brazilian finally came up against Flekken. Without consequence since the essential thing was done for the Skyblues, namely consolidating their first place with 12 points on the clock.

Liverpool in trouble, Leicester caught up

Another important result was Liverpool’s defeat against Nottingham Forest (0-1). Lacking inspiration, Arne Slot’s men failed to capitalize on their opportunities in the first half. It was ultimately Callum Hudson-Odoi who scored the first goal of the match in the second half, with a nice strike from outside the box (72nd minute, 0-1). Despite strong domination (68% possession), the Reds were unable to come back into the game. This defeat ended an attractive run of three games without defeat for Mohamed Salah’s teammates.

For its part, Leicester thought for a long time that it could leave with three points against Crystal Palace. That was without counting on Jean-Philippe Mateta. Having scored twice (47th, 1-2; 92nd, 2-2), the French striker allowed his club to move a little further away from the relegation zone. Finally, Brighton, who could have taken the lead in the event of victory, ultimately let their chance slip away against promoted Ipswich (0-0). Fulham, who were ahead for a long time, were held in the final moments of added time by West Ham, with the two teams leaving each other at 1-1.

The results of the multiplex

Southampton 0-3 Manchester United : De Ligt (36th), Rashford (41st), Garnacho (96th)

Brighton 0-0 Ipswich

Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester: Mateta (47th, 92nd) / Vardy (21st), Mavididi (46th)

Manchester City 2-1 Brentford: Haaland (19th, 32nd) / Wissa (1st)

Liverpool 0-1 Nottingham Forest : Hudson-Odoi (72nd)
