The French international from Paris Saint-Germain reveals an unexpected source of motivation.
Author of a double against Monaco (4-2) and an achievement against Lyon (3-1) at the end of December with Paris Saint-Germain, Ousmane Dembélé did it again against the Monegasques (1-0) this Sunday, as part of the Champions Trophy. Despite a lack of precision in the last gesture, often singled out, the French striker is enjoying good momentum and has already surpassed his goal total from the previous year (9 goals and 7 assists in 21 games this season, compared to 6 goals and 14 assists in 44 matches).
To maintain this momentum, the 2018 world champion draws his motivation from his desire to shine under the Parisian colors, but also from a personal challenge. Indeed, Dembélé revealed that he had launched an original challenge with those close to him, namely to achieve a certain number of goals to win very special rewards.
Dembélé’s crazy bet
“I hope that PSG will win titles, qualify for the Champions League and that it will continue for me. At the start of the season, I said I was going to score a few goals. I made a bet with my friends. I can’t tell you how many goals I told them I was going to score, but there is something to win: Pateks and Rolexes (luxury watches, editor’s note). So, I hope I will score a lot of goals (smile)”said the 27-year-old right winger in the mixed zone.
It remains to be seen whether this commitment will be enough for the Vernon native to maintain such consistency throughout the second part of the season. Note that since his arrival at PSG last summer, Dembélé has been decisive 36 times (15 goals and 21 assists) in 63 appearances with the Rouge et Bleu.
