He is 25 years old and helped turn Bayer Leverkusen into undefeated German champions. The only defeat of the season was against Atalanta Bergamo in the Europa League final, where Edmond Tapsoba failed to control the untenable Ademola Lookman. Apart from this hiccup which in no way detracts from the status of a legendary season for the German club, Tapsoba therefore had an exceptional 2023-2024 year, like his teammates. And inevitably, it catches the eye.
He was already followed by the English teams, and we told you about Manchester United’s interest in him. Chelsea had also checked his name. Tall (1m90), with good heading and good recovery, he has the profile to flourish in the Premier League. Aware of this danger, the leaders of Bayer extended it last September, until 2028. And the German press reported that they had included the highest release clause in the Bundesliga, to the tune of €100 million. According to our information, it would rather amount to €80 million.
PSG met with the player’s agent
This does not bother Paris Saint-Germain, who according to our information are interested in Tapsoba. Better, a meeting has even already taken place with the player’s agent, who is clearly not against a transfer to PSG. Bayer Leverkusen will logically be attacked on several players after its fabulous season, even though its coach Xabi Alonso has decided to continue the adventure, despite the interests of Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
For its part, PSG is looking for alternatives to what it already has in defense (where one or more departures are expected), or to avenues that have become complicated (Leny Yoro, who currently favors a possible departure to Real Madrid). It remains to be seen whether PSG will break the bank for recruitment to this position. With a contract until 2028 and a solid release clause, Edmond Tapsoba is not a market opportunity, only an excellent defender.
