Euro 2024 continues but in parallel, so does the transfer window. The various managements are taking advantage of this to make contacts away from the media echo more focused on the competition. This is the case of PSG, active on the João Neves case. As you have known for about ten days now, the Benfica midfielder has become Luis Enrique’s priority in this sector of the game. Still young (19 years old) but nevertheless already noticed after his first season as a starter in a club, he was even called up to play the Euro with Portugal.
Having remained on the bench against the Czech Republic, the player represented by Gestifute, Jorge Mendes’ company, knows a little more about his future. Record confirms today that he has indeed refused an offer of an extension from his training club. The Águias have nevertheless offered to double his salary, going from 500,000 euros per year to 1 million euros. He believes that he should be revalued further given the importance he has taken on in Roger Schmidt’s team (55 matches played) in recent months. He also knows that he is greatly courted elsewhere, with the salary that goes with it.
PSG offered to include a player to lower the bill
This refusal to extend is not new information. If PSG is so confident in this matter, it is notably for this reason, but also because of the good relationship between the two clubs built in recent years. The presence of Luis Campos in Paris is not for nothing either. The details of this extension proposal had not been leaked, however. We learn something else in the revelations of the Portuguese media. On the one hand, João Neves is in no hurry to secure his future. He gives priority to the national team.
The midfielder is not expected to extend his contract. Rui Costa, the Benfica president, is pessimistic about this matter. On the other hand, discussions between Benfica and PSG are continuing. Under contract until 2028, the Tavira native has a release clause of €120 million. An offer of €100 million could be enough, he specifies Record. This sum should not scare the French champion too much but he has offered to include a player from his squad to lower the bill. Renato Sanches, trained at Benfica, and Carlos Soler are mentioned. Everything remains open.
