With Kylian Mbappe set to leave PSG at the end of the season, the Parisian giants have started planning for life after their superstar forward and have some major ideas for the summer.

With Mbappe leaving, PSG will have a huge chunk of the wage budget freed up and the idea is to make some top signings, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Ligue 1 champions wish to sign a new forward, a midfielder, and a defender.

Building on that, reports emerged last night claiming that PSG had their sights set on Barcelona midfield gem Gavi as a potential target, but the teenage sensation is not for sale.

PSG eyeing Frenkie de Jong

Now, SPORT is reporting that PSG have moved their focus to another Barcelona midfielder in the form of Frenkie de Jong.

PSG, after the departure of Mbappe, are preparing to revolutionise their sporting project and one of their priorities is to reshape their entire midfield with the arrival of a star player. And De Jong happens to be one of the targets, along with Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.

It must be remembered that PSG wanted to sign the Dutchman back in 2019 prior to his move to Barcelona and were even offering him a more lucrative contract. But, De Jong had opted to move to Catalonia.

However, things could be different this time out.

As has been reported by multiple sources, De Jong is staring at an uncertain future at Barcelona. The Catalans do not want to sell him and instead wish for him to sign a new contract with a lower salary.

The Netherlands international has maintained that he wants to stay at the club and that has not changed. However, has yet to respond to the renewal proposal sent by the La Liga champions and plans to do so on his own terms.

As such, if De Jong does not agree to sign the new contract, the Blaugrana will open the doors to his sale, for they need to generate funds and lower their wage bill.

In that scenario, Barcelona plan on demanding €100 million for their midfielder, with clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United also in the mix, along with PSG, who would be in a position to present him with a significant financial offer and give him a top-level project.
