Barcelona were at their free-flowing best against Getafe on Saturday night. Faced against an opposition that has endlessly tested them in recent years, the Catalans came out all guns blazing and registered a 4-0 win at Montjuic.
Raphinha was elected the man of the match after 90 minutes, and rightly so, for he was a thorn in the foot of the Getafe defence down the right flank. Making his first start since his return from injury, the Brazilian scored Barcelona’s opener and registered an assist in addition to three chances created.
Speaking to the media after the win, the man-of-the-match commented on his performance on the night and how important it was for his confidence considering his recent injury.
“I’m coming back from injury, gaining playing time. It’s nice to score and assist, but the important thing is the win.”
Despite starting the season as a regular starter, Raphinha saw a drastic change in his situation during his recent spell on the sidelines, Xavi was forced to utilise young Lamine Yamal on the right wing, and the protege lit the park up and is largely considered Barcelona’s single-biggest difference maker.
“I’m not worried about Lamine Yamal. It’s a pleasure to have him as a teammate. Surely he will become one of the best players in the world. Competition is good, it motivates us more,” the Brazilian said when asked about Yamal.
Raphinha then went on to reveal what provided extra motivation for the game against Getafe and pointed back to the first game of the season to explain his point.
“I really wanted to play this match today. They sent me off against Getafe in the first match of the season.”
Finally, the winger was asked about the team’s 4-0 scoreline on the night for it was a dominant victory that Barcelona have seldom enjoyed this season.
“The more goals we score, the better.”
