Rasmus Hojlund has just given his verdict on United’s ‘top priority’ target after being cheekily put on spot

A very dejected-looking Rasmus Hojlund was stopped by Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg to answer a few questions following Denmark’s last-16 Euros exit.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side bowed out of the tournament following a 2-0 defeat at the hands of hosts Germany, who have now positioned themselves as one of the major favourites to lift the trophy on July 14.

Similar to his start to life at Manchester United, Hojlund is undergoing a dry spell for his nation, having now gone eight games without finding the back of the net. Christian Eriksen, however, scored for Denmark in their opening game.

Nevertheless, Plettenberg quizzed Hojlund on his reactions to Erik ten Hag staying at the club long-term, his ambitions for the 2024/2025 campaign, and United’s reported interest in Matthijs de Ligt.

The latest speculation regarding their pursuit suggests that the centre-half is now ‘awaiting [an] agreement’ between Bayern Munich and the Red Devils after being offered a five-year contract at Old Trafford. He has become their ‘top priority’ target.

It looks as though all that’s left to hash out is a transfer fee, with the player keen to make the switch after just two years in Munich.

Hojlund’s post-match comments

“Very happy,” Hojlund said of INEOS’ decision to stick with Ten Hag. “He’s a very good coach, and I’ve loved to work with him this year. Looking forward to many more seasons.”

The forward touched on his aims for the upcoming campaign, adding: “Become even better and score even more goals. Hopefully, we can win another trophy.”

After being cheekily put on the spot regarding United’s talks with De Ligt, Hojlund stated: “That has nothing to do with me. I can’t answer that question, but he’s a good defender.”
