Real Madrid: A Manchester City star to support Mbappé

Real Madrid currently have a wide range of excellent options in midfield, but that won’t stop Florentino Perez from looking to sign the best and brightest.

Real Madrid’s latest target is perhaps the best player at his position in world football, and a key player for European rivals Manchester City – Rodri Hernandez.

The Spanish midfielder scored the winning goal in the Champions League final and, in recent months, has even been cited for the Ballon d’Or for his performances last season.

A rookie asks by Perez

According to Joan Fontes, Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain explained to those close to him that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had set his sights on Rodri. The Whites could sign him this summer or next year, in order to take their midfield up a notch.

Rodri would deviate from Real Madrid’s recent transfer strategy, as he is already 27 years old and still has three years left on his contract. However, with Luka Modric set to leave Real Madrid this summer or next summer, and Toni Kroos’ future uncertain beyond next season, it is understandable that there would be a desire to bring in a big name to replace the German metronome. It would be surprising if Los Blancos made another major move this summer, if they pursue Alphonso Davies, Kylian Mbappé and sign Endrick Felipe.
