Arsenal academy graduate Reiss Nelson has informed the club he wants to assess his options for a possible summer transfer amid interest from four Premier League sides.

The 24-year-old has made 89 appearances for Arsenal since breaking into the first-team in 2018.

Nelson scored a memorable goal in a dramatic 3-2 win over Bournemouth in March 2023 that kept Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge on track, though they still finished the season five points behind champions and treble-winners Manchester City.

The winger had scored twice in an emphatic 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest earlier in the season, with the glimpses of promise he showed earning him a new deal that was signed last July, keeping him at Arsenal until the summer of 2027.

That contract includes an option to extend by 12 months but Nelson now looks set for a summer move and has told Arsenal he is open to talking to other clubs, according to The Athletic.

Nelson hardly featured for the title-challenging Gunners last season – starting just one Premier League game – and he knows he needs to play more regularly to revive his career.

Arsenal rejected approaches for Nelson back in January as they looked to end their 20-year wait for the Premier League title and compete for the Champions League.

The Gunners will be more open to advances this summer, however, and are hoping to raise more than £20m for a player who represented England throughout the youth levels.

It is claimed Premier League clubs West Ham, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Fulham have also expressed interest in signing Nelson, who has had loan spells in Germany and the Netherlands.

Following back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League, Arsenal are keen to back Arteta once more in the transfer market.

The Gunners are expected to sign a new striker after Gabriel Jesus’ underwhelming campaign but need to look elsewhere after missing out on key target Benjamin Sesko.

Asked about Arsenal’s transfer plans earlier in the month, Arteta said: ‘[We] look again.

‘All the margins, squad-wise, the process that we have at the football club, our methodology, especially on how we can make our players better, more competitive, more consistent and cause them to raise the level and be better than the previous season.

‘I think our focus has to be with what we have already in house. “How can we be better?” There are margins and there are players that can still develop and be better and that’s the objective that we have.

‘Every decision we’re going to make is to be better, without losing who we are and everything that is taking us in the position that we are now as a football club, as a team.

‘The ambition is there. The players, the staff. You can sense it. They want much more. They want to start lifting trophies and that’s the next step.’
