Rey Mysterio has cracked the code behind Dominik Mysterio’s massive heel heat in WWE—and it’s not what you’d expect. The WWE Hall of Famer recently joked that his son’s mustache, not their ongoing family drama, is the real reason fans love to hate him.
Speaking on Rosenberg Wrestling, Rey reflected on how his own beloved babyface status might have initially triggered the audience’s disdain for Dominik. However, he claimed the real villain in this story isn’t the betrayal—it’s the facial hair.
“I think it was definitely a triggering point at a certain part of his career or his turn, but then after that, I think now it’s mainly based on the Mustache,” Rey said. He didn’t stop there, adding, “I mean, I hate it. I don’t know about you. [It’s] gotta be the Mustache. Not so much the hatred that he has on his father—it’s the Mustache, yeah.”
Rey’s playful dig at Dominik’s signature look has left fans buzzing. Whether or not the mustache is the true source of the heat, there’s no denying that Dominik’s heel persona has become one of the most talked-about acts in wrestling.
