Santos Escobar attacked Rey Mysterio and turned heel in the process back in November. This was way to write him off WWE television as Rey Mysterio underwent knee surgery. Mysterio is still recovering from his injury and now he is close to making his in-ring return.

Before his hiatus, The Master of The 619 lost the United States Championship to Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel. Naturally, fans were curious about WWE’s plans for Mysterio following his defeat.

Rey Mysterio had previously noted around Christmas last year that he was at the 4-week mark of his recovery. Mysterio then set his sights on returning at the Royal Rumble last month, but that did not happen.

According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was noted that Rey Mysterio is closing in on his in-ring return, adding that he still has a few weeks left before he can compete again.

”Rey Mysterio’s return now looks to be in a few weeks. He was hoping for late January but is pretty close to being ready to return.”

It is likely Rey will begin feuding with either Santos Escobar or Logan Paul upon his return, so we’ll have to see what WWE has planned for him, as fans dearly miss The Master of The 619.
