Rhea Ripley reflects on the stinkface spot and says Nia Jax gave her those eyes, as she wanted it deep down.

Earlier in 2024, Rhea Ripleuy went viral when she hit Nia Jax with a stinkface at a WWE live event.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet at a media event ahead of WWE SummerSlam, Rhea Ripley was asked whether the stinkface was her idea.

“Kind of…I think Nia was pretty down for it, though. Nia really wanted that stink face deep down inside. She really, really wanted it [laughs], so I’m gonna say it was Nia’s idea. She gave me those eyes, you know?”

Ripley then agreed that she broke the internet with the spot. She highlighted the positive and negative reactions.

“Yeah, I definitely broke the internet in a positive way and a negative way. People were so excited about it, but then some people were angry about it, and I got attacked for that, which makes no sense because they get excited when other people do it, other females and other females.

“So I think they want to attack me just because it’s me, but whatever. We’ll keep going. I’m still better than you, so shut up [laughs].”

Rhea Ripley Stinkface Criticism

Ripley previously discussed the criticism of her stinkface spot. In an interview with MMA Hour, Ripley noted that no matter what she did, she got a reaction.

“I find it real comical that [Becky Lynch] brings up the stink face at the live event because after these interviews have surfaced, and obviously I go on my social media, I’ve been tagged in a lot of videos of Becky attempting to do the stink-face on live events as well,” Ripley said. “There’s a couple where she does the whole hip swivel going into it and Asuka reversed it. There was one where Asuka stepped on the second rope and full on gave her a stink face. I don’t know why I have to be the one that gets attacked. I guess it’s a jealousy thing with everyone. I’m not entirely sure, but whatever Mami does, it gets a reaction from the crowd. It gets a reaction.”

“Am I not allowed to have fun on live events like everyone else? People just want be misogynistic against me because they have a problem with me and obviously my work ethic and how much time I spend in the gym to make my body the weapon that is today and the way that I look. I can’t help the way that I look,” Ripley continued. “I could go out there in my old gear, my pants. Could go out there in my jeans and people will still find a way to mention these things when that should not be the focus.”
