Rio Ferdinand has expressed his hopes for Marcus Rashford’s career following fresh reports of Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in the forward.
The Manchester United star is tipped to be the subject of a blockbuster summer bid from PSG as they look to navigate Kylian Mbappe’s prospective exit.
As per The Mirror, the Ligue 1 outfit are prepared to test United’s resolve with a £75 million offer after failing in their initial pursuit back in 2022. At the time, it was believed that they had proposed wages worth £400,000 per week to the England international.
After penning a five-year contract extension in July 2023, Rashford saw his terms increased to a reported £325,000 a week (BBC). It came after a career-best campaign, in which he netted 30 goals for the first time and played a vital role in the club finishing third, reaching the FA Cup final and winning the Carabao Cup; he scored in every round of the competition, including the final when United ended a six-year trophy drought.
He has struggled to replicate such form this term, though, having notched just seven goals and six assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
Ferdinand sends message to Rashford
Ferdinand hopes that despite his troubles at Old Trafford in 2023/2024, Rashford still decides to stay true to his roots and stay with his boyhood club, whom he has been with since the age of seven, long-term.
“With Marcus, you just want him to be that, I’d love him to be that one-club player for the rest of his career,” the former Red declared on his FIVE podcast. “Break all the records, and kind of put the club on his back and be that guy.
“Now the fortunes are going to hopefully turn with Ineos coming in in the next couple of years and he’s central to that, and I’d love that to happen.”
