Marseille completed the transfer of Mason Greenwood last week and more information has been revealed following their successful pursuit of the former Manchester United forward.
The reaction to the news in these parts was relief. United have nothing to do with Greenwood anymore after he blew his opportunity to make a name for himself at the club.
Greenwood was informed earlier this summer that there was no way back for him at Old Trafford. A stance he should have expected.
According to The Athletic, Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi called Mason Greenwood and his father ‘every day’ to ensure the Ligue 1 club would win the race for his signature.
Greenwood finalised a permanent switch to Marseille in a deal worth £26.6 million.
The 22-year-old was attracting interest from Serie A outfit Lazio following his season-long loan at Getafe in Spain.
Marseille dug deep to make a deal for Greenwood happen. De Zerbi wanted him and he made that clear to the player and his father.
The former Brighton manager was at the heart of Marseille’s push for Greenwood.
