Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Portugal teammate Pedro Mendes has raised the possibility of the Al-Nassr forward joining Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

The rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo has become one of the biggest debates in all of sport. It is slowly moving away from the elite of football with CR7 moving to Saudi Arabia and Messi moving to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami. However, Mendes believes Ronaldo joining the Herons would be a perfect ending, as the two men could “finish their careers together”.

Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League betting, Mendes said: “If Cristiano Ronaldo were to join Inter Miami, it would be extraordinary for the fans and incredible for football in America. It would mean that the two best players in the history and future of football, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, would end their careers together, which would be a dream come true. However, I don’t see how that could happen. It would be very difficult.”

A very difficult transfer

Messi and Ronaldo are the two most successful players of the 21st century, if not in the history of sport. Between them, they have won 13 Ballons d’Or, nine Champions Leagues and a total of 76 titles. They have also scored a total of 1,732 goals in their careers, not including friendlies.

It is highly unlikely that the duo will have a dream end to their careers, but fans can dream of seeing the two legends play together before calling time on their respective careers. As for the immediate future, Ronaldo recently lost to France in the Euro quarter-finals and is unlikely to play for Portugal in another major tournament.
