Manchester United have identified Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies as their ‘dream solution’ next summer.

Davies, 24, has entered the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena and will be free to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Real Madrid are eager to bring the left-back to Spain but United’s interest has emerged in recent months.

While the Spanish giants would appear to be the more attractive destination on paper, United did manage to lure Leny Yoro to Old Trafford last summer despite Madrid initially being his preferred destination.

Reports claiming Davies has already agreed a pre-contract deal with Real have been denied while extending his stay at Bayern beyond next year has also not been ruled out.

United are currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League but are hoping for immediate improvement under new head coach Ruben Amorim, who will take charge of his first game against Ipswich Town on Sunday.

The Portuguese coach is expected to change United’s formation having delivered success playing with a 3-4-3 system at Sporting Lisbon.

With wing-backs playing a key role in that formation, fussball.news report Amorim regards Davies as ‘the perfect piece of the puzzle’ on the left of his team.

United have also been heavily linked with a move for Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres since Amorim’s appointment. While he has ruled out a January move for the prolific striker, he did not rule out attempts to sign him in the summer.

United have had desperate problems at left-back since the start of last season with Luke Shaw starting just 13 matches for his club since August 2023.

The England international is still to play this season having suffered a number of setbacks in his bid to return to action but did train under Amorim this week, used on the left of a back three. Shaw was briefly used at centre-half by Erik ten Hag and could be an option in that role under Amorim going forward.

Malacia meanwhile played at left wing-back in training this week. The Netherlands international has not played for the first team since May 2023, sidelined with a string of knee problems.

He got minutes for the Under-21 side last week as he steps up his return.
