EXCLUSIVE: Ryan Bergara and Kevin Kreider will star in Jennifer Zhang’s sci-fi thriller Trüebadour, set to begin shooting in April.
Jamie Lee Curtis has also come onboard as an executive producer.
The film marks the feature lead acting debut of Ryan Bergara, known for his new media network Watcher Entertainment and series like Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ghost Files.
Kreider (Bling Empire, Hello, Love, Again) will also be joining the cast, which includes Gina Su, Matt Gottlieb and Tom Herrick.
Trüebadour is Zhang’s third feature and the story follows the disturbing implosion of a tech start up after an innovative AI “storytelling” device is introduced into the company.
Zhang’s previous works include Charon, which was shot on an iPhone 8 on a micro budget, and in isolation during the pandemic in 2020, as well as 2022 short film, Fetish.
NextShark Studios has boarded the production, with founder Benny Luo executive producing and cinematographer Daphne Qin Wu lensing the project.
Other executive producers on Trüebadour include Christopher Tremann of Tenax Media, Jaice DuMars of Score Reveal Productions, Debby Chang, Andrew Sakai, Linda Fang, Jon Lee Brody, and a film financing group founded by Scott Fitzpatrick, Michael Leibowitz, Stuart Giles, and Jessica Sohl of JSJN Ventures.
Curtis said: “I have followed Jennifer’s promising career for several years and I’m excited to join this thrilling project.”
On casting Bergara, Zhang said: “Ryan is a natural entertainer who has been quietly and diligently cultivating his acting craft, and we’re thrilled to be showcasing his magnetic talent. His background as one of the most notable paranormal investigators of our generation made him an irresistibly meta casting choice for this film, which incorporates supernatural themes into its exploration of artificial intelligence.”
Zhang is represented by Larry Robinson at Los Angeles- and London-based management company Avatar Entertainment. Ryan Bergara is represented by Chris Lee at Authentic Talent and Literary
Management.
