Santa Barbara Film Festival: Timothée Chalamet To Receive Arlington Artist Of The Year Award

UPDATED with latest: Timothée Chalamet has been tapped to receive the Arlington Artist of the Year Award during the 40th edition of the Santa Barbara Film Festival. The honor will be bestowed February 11 during an-person tribute and career retrospective.

The festival, which runs February 4-15, said Monday it was honoring Chalamet for three 2024 films: the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two and the musical Wonka. The award, organizers said, “recognizes Chalamet’s unparalleled talent and his enduring impact on the cinematic landscape.”

A Complete Unknown hits theaters on December 25 via Searchlight.

Chalamet is the latest honoree announced by SBIFF, which is a must-stop on the annual movie-awards circuit. He joins the likes of the previously announced Ralph Fiennes from Conclave (Outstanding Performer of the Year), Maria‘s Angelina Jolie (the Maltin Modern Master Award) and Emilia Pérez star Zoe Saldaña (American Riviera Award).

Additionally, Kieran Culkin, Harris Dickinson, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Clarence Maclin, Mikey Madison and John Magaro have been tapped to receive the fest’s Virtuosos Award, which will be handed out in a ceremony February 9.

PREVIOUSLY, October 30: Ralph Fiennes, who currently stars in Focus Features’ awards-season drama Conclave from Edward Berger, has been selected to receive the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award at the 40th Santa Barbara Film Festival.

Fiennes will be honored during a ceremony at the festival on February 6, 2025, adding his name to recent recipients of the honor including Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Will Smith, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Sacha Baron Cohen, Adam Driver, Rami Malek, and Margot Robbie and Allison Janney.

Conclave, which hit theaters this past weekend, plays Cardinal Lawrence, who leads the Vatican cardinals in the ancient process of selecting a new Pope after the pontiff’s unexpected death. Intrigue, power struggles and the uncovering of deep secrets ensues.

Santa Barbara has been ramping up its 2025 awards announcements, already setting Maria star Angelina Jolie to receive the career Maltin Modern Master Award and Emilia Pérez star Zoe Saldaña the American Riviera Award.

More honorees will be announced ahead of the 2025 festival, which runs February 4-15.
