Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, mourned the tragic loss of lives in a fatal truck accident in the Aiyetoro area of Epe, which occurred on Monday.

In a post on X.com on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu extended his condolences to the families affected by the accident.

He wrote, “I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences in light of the tragic traffic accident that occurred in the Aiyetoro area of Epe, Lagos State, yesterday, Monday, 11 November 2024.

“Reports indicate that a cement truck suffered brake failure, resulting in the unfortunate loss of lives and injuries sustained.

“With deep sorrow, I extend my sympathies to the families of those affected. I also pray for the departed souls and the speedy recovery of those injured.

“May the families find solace in the love and support surrounding them, and may the cherished memories of their loved ones bring them some comfort as they navigate their grief.”

The accident, allegedly caused by a cement truck suffering brake failure, claimed at least three lives and left others injured.

The Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, in a statement on X.com, said, “I wish to express my sympathy over a traffic accident that occurred in  Aiyetoro area of Epe township,  in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State on Monday, 11th November 2024.

“The accident, according to reports, involved a truck ladened with cement which reportedly had brake failure that resulted in claiming some lives, with quite a number of people sustaining varied degrees of injuries.

“With a grief heart, I commiserate with the family of the victims and prayed to  God Almighty to console them.

“I  also prayed for the repose of the departed ones, and quick recovery for those that were injured. It is quite unfortunate that such a thing happened at this point in time.

“Once again, I am deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of the affected victims. May their families find solace in the love and support surrounding them and may the pains of this loss be eased by the cherished moments they shared with them while alive. My thoughts are with you all.”

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement, described the incident as a heartbreaking accident that “has left our hearts heavy, as we mourn the loss of these young souls who were full of hope and dreams and an industrious individual who worked tirelessly for his livelihood.”

He said, “As a member of this community, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends affected by this terrible loss. I can only imagine the pain you must feel, and I want you to know that you are not alone in this moment of grief.”

The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun, expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims.

In a statement from her office, she conveyed her heartfelt sympathies, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.

“We also extend our best wishes for the swift recovery of those injured and affected by this unfortunate event.”
