For its entry into the Asian Cup in Qatar on Saturday, China thought it would open the scoring in the 80th minute against Tajikistan, but the referees canceled the goal for a rather improbable offside.
The day after Qatar’s victory against Lebanon (3-0), during the opening match of the 2023 Asian Cup organized in January 2024 in Doha and its surroundings, China and Tajikistan were opposed in the second match of this group A. The Dragon team had a very bad match, even being dominated by the Tajiks without complexes.
The Chinese, however, opened the scoring 10 minutes from the end of the match from a corner, with a header from Zhu Chenjie at the near post (80th). But the video referee, after reviewing the images at length, called the central referee, the Saudi Al Hoish, who penalized Tyias Browning’s offside on the opposing goal line.
This defender, born in Liverpool and trained at Everton (renamed Jiang Guangtai after his Chinese naturalization), was offside on the head of his teammate and was struggling with an opposing defender but the latter did not have the opportunity to block the shot initial. An incomprehensible decision for most of those following the meeting (live on YouTube).
After this 0-0, China faces Lebanon, while Tajikistan challenges the Qatari hosts.
