Congress MLA Ravi Kumar Gowda has stated that actress Rashmika Mandanna “should be taught a lesson”. This comes after she referred to herself as someone from Hyderabad instead of Karnataka. This criticism from Gowda, along with comments from Kannada activist T A Narayana Gowda, has prompted the Codava National Council (CNC) to reach out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara, requesting protection for Mandanna following the backlash.
CNC Chief Pleads For Rashmika Mandanna’s Security Increase
CNC president N. U. Nachappa expressed in a letter that the actress is being “bullied and intimidated” by the legislator. He describes it as an act of “hooliganism” from the Kodava community’s perspective. He emphasized that Rashmika comes from the Indigenous Codava tribal community in Codavaland. She has achieved significant success in the Indian film industry through her talent and hard work. The organization noted that she has worked with prominent Bollywood stars such as Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan.
CNC Chief Says Rashmika Mandanna Is Being Attacked Because Of Her Community
“The CNC emphasises that Rashmika’s freedom to make her own choices should be respected. And that she should not be coerced into complying with the whims of the legislature. The council also highlights that the legislator’s actions reflect Codava phobia, as they are targeting Rashmika solely because of her community,” Nachappa stated. He highlighted that the MLA’s actions reflect “Codava phobia,” targeting Rashmika specifically because of her community.
“In light of this, the CNC is demanding that the government ensure Rashmika’s safety and treat her with the respect she deserves, protecting her rights and upholding justice,” he further stated. “It is ironic that the people of Mandya, who heavily rely on the Cauvery River, have an MLA who is bullying Rashmika Mandanna, the beloved daughter of Mother Cauvery and a renowned actress from the region,” Nachappa said.
Nachappa stressed that the attack on Mandanna represents a personal affront to the actress and a blow to the dignity of Codavaland and its people. He called attention to the importance of standing against such behaviour and supporting those facing intimidation.
What Did Congress MLA Say About Rashmika Mandanna?
Recently, MLA Ganiga remarked that Mandanna, who originates from the Kodagu district in Karnataka, should be reprimanded for identifying as someone from Hyderabad. “Rashmika began her career in Karnataka with her debut in the Kannada film Kirik Party (2016). During her recent appearance at a film festival, she claimed to reside in Hyderabad,” Ganiga told reporters.
The MLA further alleged that Mandanna said she didn’t know where Karnataka was and that she didn’t attend the film festival due to time constraints. “One of our MLAs visited her home and invited her multiple times, but she dismissed Kannada matters despite growing up in Karnataka. Shouldn’t she be taught a lesson?” Ganiga questioned.
