Justin Baldoni‘s newly published website about his legal battle with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds included an alleged statement that the couple wanted Justin to release amid backlash aimed at the actress on the It Ends With Us press tour. If you forgot, Blake was criticized online for her behavior promoting the movie. At the time, she encouraged people to attend with their friends and to wear florals in a reference to her character owning a flower shop. However, some felt that she her behavior diminished the movie’s more serious discussion of domestic abuse. This sparked a backlash that was largely aimed at Blake. On Saturday (February 1), Justin revealed a statement that Blake and Ryan allegedly drafted for him to release via his production company Wayfarer to accept blame for the backlash. Read Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ alleged statement… According to his website, the statement was presented to Justin‘s team on August 12, 2024. It reads as follows: “IT ENDS WITH US was a troubled production which we take full accountability for. We are very sorry to everyone we caused upset to privately and publicly. Blake Lively, Colleen Hoover, the entire cast and crew led with professionalism every step of the way, any negativity aimed at them is ours to own. We mutually agreed that the cast would be promoting the film separately and understood why. We have always said we are not perfect and even if unintentionally make mistakes, we will always own then. We hold ourselves accountable, it’s not anyone’s job but ours and that’s part of being ‘man enough’. We will practice what we preach. We are learning and growing from the experience and we thank everyone for their patience as we find a better way to proceed. We are very proud of the film and the welcome arms that it’s been received. Part of our work is to have uncomfortable conversations for public growth. The film is doing that on screen and we are doing that off screen. Thank you to the cast and public for the opportunity to be imperfect and to be given the space to learn and grow.” The website noted that Justin and his team did not believe that the statement would have the desired effect. They reportedly turned down the statement, “firmly refusing to issue any statement falsely assuming responsibility for non-existent issues.” Justin‘s website also included a never-before-seen exchange between him and Ryan.
