Sergi Roberto, the former captain of Barcelona, is on the brink of a new chapter in his football career as he prepares to join Italian side Como.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the transfer is almost finalized, with only a few documents left to be signed.

The move, once completed, will see Como, a newly promoted team in Serie A, signing one of the most versatile players in the sport.

Interestingly, the decision to bring Roberto to Como is heavily influenced by Cesc Fabregas, Como’s manager, who played a crucial role in convincing the club’s board to pursue the player.

Fabregas, a former teammate of Roberto at Barcelona, understands the value and experience that the 31-year-old can bring to the team.

It must be noted that despite having several attractive offers, including some from Premier League clubs, Roberto has chosen to embark on this new journey with Como.

For Como, this transfer represents more than just adding a seasoned player to their roster. The club has ambitious goals that extend beyond merely avoiding relegation. They aim to compete for the top spots in the league and attract high-calibre talent.

By securing a player of Roberto’s stature, Como are making a clear statement of intent. The club’s competitive project has been designed to establish themselves firmly in Italy’s top flight, and Roberto’s arrival is a key part of this strategy.

Roberto, who has spent the last few seasons primarily on the bench at Barcelona, is eager for a fresh start where he can play a more prominent role.

Como provide him with the ideal platform to showcase his skills and contribute significantly to the team’s success. Having played 373 official matches for Barcelona, his experience will be invaluable to Como.

Furthermore, it is said that the move could be officially announced as early as this Thursday and once confirmed, Roberto will join a squad that already includes fellow Spaniards Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno, as well as former Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
