The managerial market in Europe has witnessed a massive shift in the past week or so. Two major developments have come in the form of Jurgen Klopp and Xavi leaving their respective clubs at the end of the season.
At Barcelona, Xavi’s decision to quit has caused shockwaves in Catalonia. The club, already struggling with economic distress, are now facing the important task of finalising a new coach for the new season ahead.
Barcelona’s interest in Thiago Motta
Barcelona have already been in touch with many options across Europe, one of them being Thiago Motta.
It was reported earlier this week that Motta is a serious candidate to replace Xavi at Barça next season, particularly due to his early success at Bologna.
Formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, Motta started his coaching career a few years ago. He is currently in charge of Bologna, where the former midfielder has induced a proper tactical identity into the team.

Thiago Motta denies Barcelona links
However, when asked about the recent links to Barcelona, Thiago Motta has denied any speculation and opted not to comment on his future.
“I heard of Xavi leaving Barça, yes — they told me this news some minutes ago,” Motta said in a recent interaction (h/t Fabrizio Romano).
When asked about Barcelona links, the coach replied, “I live in the present. I’m enjoying my time at Bologna, I’m only focused on the present.”
Motta also refused to talk about his future at Bologna. For Barça fans, it must be noted that the Italian’s contract at the club expires in the summer, thus paving the way for Barcelona to make a move at the end of the season.
However, with other options also in consideration, it remains to be seen whether or not Motta will truly end up replacing Xavi at Camp Nou next season.
