Inter Milan have reportedly shortlisted Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of the summer transfer window, as per Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Serie A giants, who currently sit atop the table with a 14-point advantage, could ignite their pursuit of Wan-Bissaka if it looks as though stalwart defender Denzel Dumfries will opt against signing a contract extension. As it stands, he is yet to be convinced of a long-term future at the San Siro.
Dumfries has found himself linked to the Red Devils in recent years and therefore, could be utilised in a part-exchange deal for the former Crystal Palace star.
Despite being a key starter this season when fit, you’d expect that Wan-Bissaka is one player whom United would be open to selling. He was heavily linked with an exit during Erik ten Hag’s maiden window, as it was clear that he didn’t quite fit the manager’s plans.
This was further shown by the fact that last season, the right-back made just one four-minute cameo in the Premier League prior to Diogo Dalot sustaining an injury at the 2022 World Cup. After taking his chances with both hands and impressing Ten Hag, Wan-Bissaka then began to play a more significant role.
Still, Dalot’s resurgent form this season has certainly seen him rank higher in Ten Hag’s estimations. Both players currently make the starting 11 due to the extended absences of left-backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, so when the pair return, one of the deputising right-backs will have to drop to the bench.
A pivotal summer ahead for Wan-Bissaka
Wan-Bissaka, 26, is out of contract next year after the club activated his 12-month extension back in January. There’s no chance that United would want to lose him for free, so this summer is the last chance they have to make a significant fee from his potential departure; interested teams would be reluctant to pay a hefty asking price in the winter window given that he’d have just five months remaining on his deal.
