Shelton Benjamin reflects on his WWE tenure.

Between his two runs there, Shelton Benjamin spent a total of 16 years under the umbrella of WWE. Initially brought in through WWE’s developmental territory of Ohio Valey Wrestling, Benjamin eventually worked his way to the company’s main roster in 2002, where he performed until his first departure in 2010. Benjamin later returned to WWE for another six-year stint, beginning in 2017, before exiting again in September 2023.

During a recent interview with Daily Star, Benjamin looked back on his respective WWE runs, pinpointing some of his favorite moments.

“I’ll be honest, I have so many,” Benjamin said. “The first one that comes to mind is my first WrestleMania, me and Charlie [Haas] defend the Tag Team Championships in Seattle. So that’s a highlight. The first Money in the Bank, that is probably one of my biggest things I like to look back on. My match with Triple H, my first match on a RAW with Triple H.”

“Winning my first [Intercontinental] title against Chris Jericho at Taboo Tuesday [2004]. I really love that match for a few reasons; One, because it was 100% on the fly. Most people say, ‘Oh they planned everything.’ Me and Chris just went out there and did it, and what really made that special because it was a legitimate fan vote that got me into that match. So that, for me, is a huge source of joy for me.”

Unaired Gems

In addition to the aforementioned televised highlights, Benjamin noted that he acquired a surplus of fond memories from unaired matches as well. As an example, Benjamin referenced a near 30-minute live event battle he had with MVP.

“Once, me and MVP did almost a half-hour at a live event, and like a great NFL quarterback, Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat was calling audibles into the into our match. The ref was relaying it to us and it was one of the best matches I’ve ever had,” Benjamin said.
