Manchester United could be set to make a U-turn on Marcus Rashford by bringing him back to the fold after several weeks of exile.
Ruben Amorim has been omitting the English striker from his matchday squad since mid-December, citing the player’s lack of commitment as the cause behind this controversial call. The situation came to a head last Sunday when the Portuguese manager astonishingly claimed he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital than bring back the 27-year-old.
Nevertheless, offloading the outcasted forward is proving to be a challenging task for the Red Devils. Rashford has been linked with the likes of AC Milan, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, but none of these tracks have materialised just yet.
Hence, the England international could end up staying at Carrington amidst the lack of alternatives, and Sky Sports correspondent Dharmesh Sheth believes this could force Amorim to go back on his word by reinstating the player.
“Rashford looked favourite [to go to Milan] with Kyle Walker the one that they were going to try and bring in if they couldn’t get Rashford,” explained the journalist. “That then switched, and Kyle Walker then came to AC Milan, so Rashford no longer going there.
“Dortmund wanted to bring him in. Nope, the finances simply will not work for Borussia Dortmund. “Rashford wants to go to Barcelona, but if you want to put up a list of clubs who have got financial issues, I think Barcelona will probably be top of that list. They need to create a lot of salary space to be even able to consider and contemplate a move for Rashford.
Why Marcus Rashford could be brought back to the fold
(Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images)“So, as it stands, with what, five days to go as we record this, he’s still a Manchester United player, he’s still training with the first-team squad, but nowhere near Ruben Amorim’s plans with regard to including him in that first-team squad.
“So, for me, if he is still a United player come 11pm on the 3rd of February, there might have to be some sort of reintegration into the first-team squad and Rashford will need to work harder.”
It should be noted that Rashford has been spotted training alongside his teammates, but hasn’t been called up for the club’s final Europa League group-stage contest against FCSB.
