Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, announced that at least 10 suspects are in custody related to the recent killing of five soldiers at Obikabia Junction in Aba, Abia State.

During his visit to the Forward Operation Base (FOB) of the 144 Battalion in Ngwa High School, Osisioma Local Government Area, Otti disclosed yesterday that the bounty on the killers had been increased from N25 million to N30 million.

Otti stated, “I’m aware some people have been detained, but the GOC informed me this morning that nearly everyone previously apprehended has been released, except for about nine or 10 individuals who are still under investigation.”

He emphasized the importance of thorough investigations while cautioning against punishing innocent civilians, suggesting that the culprits might be from outside the state. “We must ensure that innocent people are treated with respect while we hunt down the criminals,” he said.

Governor Otti thanked the troops for their work in reducing crime in the past year and encouraged them to stay vigilant. “I often drive around even at midnight and see your alertness. Keep up the good work and don’t let this incident discourage you.”

The Governor, received by the Commanding Officer Major K.P. Duniya on behalf of the Commander of the 14 Brigade Ohafia, Brigadier General O.O. Diya, expressed his condolences and reassured the troops of the state government’s support.

Addressing the recent incident, he said, “I came to speak to you about the unfortunate event at Obikabia Junction in Obingwa Local Government Area. As the Chief Security Officer of the State, it’s my responsibility to ensure your morale remains high and you stay focused.”

Otti mentioned the ongoing intelligence gathering and credible information that suggests the crime might have been committed by those opposed to the state’s progress. He vowed to get to the root of the matter and bring all involved to justice.
