The Spanish Federation has requested Pau Cubarsi to join both the UEFA Euro and the Olympic Games. For that, they have asked Barcelona to get the necessary documents ready, reports MARCA.

Spanish national team manager Luis De la Fuente is set to announce the Euro Cup squad on Monday, May 27, which is just six days from now.

Cubarsi, on his part, is expected to be included in this list, as he has recently started playing for the national team since March.

Additionally, Cubarsi has also been asked to be a part of Santi Denia’s squad in the Olympic Games along with other players like Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, and Nico Williams.

Why the hustle?

It is suggested that the plan is to have all the players who want to compete in the Olympics, including those already playing in the Euro Cup.

This approach was used during the Tokyo Olympics, where many players who reached the Euro semifinals later went to Japan and won silver medals.

For players from Spanish clubs, there are no major hurdles but this was not the case for those in foreign clubs like Manchester City and Roma in 2021. In any way, Spanish players from these clubs managed to participate in the Games anyway.

Will Barcelona allow this?

Barcelona have a good relationship with the Spanish Federation, but they are cautious about letting their players participate in both competitions.

The club’s past experience with Pedri is a concern, although it is now understood that his issues extended beyond his participation in Tokyo.

In discussions, Barcelona have expressed a preference for their players to avoid competing in both the Euro and the Olympics.

The Federation has explained its needs and assured that it will act in the players’ best interests.

As for Cubarsi, he is entirely expected to be part of the team for the Euro in Germany and Barcelona have been informed to prepare whatever is necessary for the Olympics as well.
