EXCLUSIVE: Spenser Granese (Dope Thief) is the newest addition to the cast of Marty Supreme, director Josh Safdie’s new film for A24, starring Timothée Chalamet, sources tell Deadline.
Character details are under wraps, as with the film’s plot, though the project supposedly takes loose inspiration from the story of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman. Sources close to the production stress have stressed, at the same time, that it’s a fictionalized original, rather than a biopic.
Pic’s eclectic ensemble also includes Gwyneth Paltrow, musician Tyler, The Creator, Odessa A’zion, magician Penn Jillette, Shark Tank panelist and entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful), Fran Drescher, Sandra Bernhard, and filmmaker Abel Ferrara.
Production is currently underway, with Safdie working from his script written with Ronald Bronstein. The duo produces alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24.
Currently, Granesa can be seen starring alongside Rooney Mara in the drama La Cocina, which was picked up by Elizabeth Woodward’s Willa for distribution and started playing in theaters nationwide on November 8. Recently appearing opposite Micaela Diamond and Niecy Nash on FX’s hit Ryan Murphy series Grotesquerie, he’ll next be seen in Peter Craig and Ridley Scott’s crime drama series Dope Thief (fka Sinking Spring), which has unveiled first-look photos and premieres on Apple TV+ on March 14, 2025.
Granese is represented by Untitled Entertainment and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
