Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael is currently hospitalized after being admitted to the intensive care unit for an infection.

McMichael, who is currently battling ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, aka “Lou Gehrig’s disease), was admitted on Thursday evening. According to a family spokesperson, McMichael spiked a fever and “appeared to be very lethargic.”

It was originally believed that he was suffering from pneumonia, but the family updated his status and said he was being treated for an infection. ABC 7 News Chicago confirmed that McMichael is being treated for a urinary tract infection.

Last week, the Chicago Bears star and WCW commentator/wrestler was elected to the Pro Football Hall Of Fame Class of 2024.

Mongo’s family hopes he will be healthy enough to travel to Canton, Ohio, for the Hall Of Fame induction ceremony this summer. ABC 7 noted that the NFL has promised to pay for any medical expenses needed to send McMichael to the ceremony.
