Hulk Hogan always manages to capture attention, both in and outside the world of professional wrestling, whether it’s for positive or negative reasons. During WWE RAW’s Netflix debut on January 6, fans loudly booed everything Hogan said, which surprised many people. Teddy Long then expressed confusion over why people were so upset to see Hogan and received backlash for the same and he is now clarifying his comments.

In a recent interview, Teddy Long talked about Hulk Hogan and how he worked with him when the NWO started, along with Kevin Sullivan and Godfather. Long said Hogan was always kind and would talk to him, giving him advice. He remembered the last time he saw Hogan at a TV taping. Hogan called him from across the arena just to introduce him to his new wife. Long appreciated this because Hogan didn’t have to do it, but it showed that he had no problems with him.

“Hulk, and I mean, he’s a great guy. I had the opportunity to be with him back when the NWO started, with him, Kevin Sullivan, and Godfather. Hogan was always someone who pulled me aside, talked to me, and told me things that I needed to know and hear. The last time I saw Hogan, we were at a TV taping, and he called me from across the arena to introduce me to his new wife. He didn’t have to do that, you know what I mean? So, I look at things like that. If he took the time to call me over and introduce me to his new wife, that shows me, you know, hey, I’ve got no problem with you.”

While speaking on The Wrestling Time Machine, Teddy Long clarified his comments and explained that he likes Hulk Hogan because Hogan has always been kind to him. He said that if Hogan said anything racist in the past, it’s something Hogan has to deal with, but Long does not support those actions.

Long clarified that he never said he fully supported Hogan, just that they’ve always gotten along. He shared that Hogan once did something nice for him out of the blue, which he appreciated. Long emphasized that if Hogan made any mistakes, it’s on him to face them, not Long, as Hogan has always treated him well.

“Well, maybe they don’t understand what I meant when I said I support Hulk Hogan. I never said, ‘I supported Hulk Hogan.’ The only thing I said is ‘Hogan and I have always been okay.’ I can’t help what he said or any of the racial stuff he said. That’s on Hogan. Ok? He’s always been a gentleman to me, the man called me out of the blue one time and did something with me that I know he didn’t have to do. So, I have a lot of respect for people when they do stuff like that, especially for me. If Hulk Hogan makes any of these racial slurs, Hulk Hogan’s gotta live with that, not Teddy Long. All I can say is he’s never mistreated me, he’s always been straight up and fair with me and that’s all I can say about the man.”

Despite the backlash, Hogan is still set to appear at the Saturday Night’s Main Event show on January 25, 2025, live from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, TX. Regardless, Long simply felt it was necessary to clarify his remarks and it’s not hard to see why.
