It’s done ! Lionel Messi wins The Best trophy for player of the year 2023. Mbappé loses again…
Lionel Messi wins The Best trophy for player of the year 2023, ahead of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé. None of the three made the trip, so it was Thierry Henry who collected the trophy in place of the Argentinian, during a ceremony in London this Monday. Messi has won this award more times than any other player, in 2019, 2022 and now 2023.
After winning his eighth Ballon d’Or in 2023, at the end of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Argentine was also crowned the best player in the world by football’s governing body. The MLS star is the first player to win the award while playing in the US league, and this is the third time he has been honored.
