After the withdrawal of San Siro, the city of Marseille has applied to host the Champions League final in 2027.

It will be London in 2025, and Budapest in 2026. But we do not yet know where the Champions League final will take place in 2027. Initially, it was the city of Milan that was supposed to host it. But the project fell through.

“Given that the City of Milan cannot guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings will not be affected by the renovation works during the period of the 2027 Champions League final, it has been decided not to award the final to Milan”indicates a press release published this Tuesday.

Marseille weighed down by Paris?

So there is a C1 final to recover, and a French city did not hesitate to put itself forward as a candidate. “And why not Marseille, in the most beautiful stadium in France: the Vélodrome”asked Sébastien Jibrayel, deputy mayor in charge of sports, via X. “With the mayor, Benoît Payan, we will support Marseille’s bid to host the Champions League final in 2027”assures the elected official.

The Champions League final took place at the Stade de France in 2022, and the bad memory of that evening, with the harmful role of the police and the French authorities, will not speak in favor of the Phocaean city. But Marseille can still try its luck. A new call for tenders has been launched and the result is expected in May/June 2025, UEFA indicates.
