Amin Joseph (Snowfall) has been cast as a lead opposite Jaalen Best in The Greatest, Prime Video’s limited series about the life of Muhammad Ali, from executive producer Michael B. Jordan and executive producer/showrunner Ben Watkins.
The series will feature the defining moments in Ali’s life and career — both in and out of the ring — that have been well documented as well as moments that took place outside the spotlight. The world remembers an icon, but The Greatest is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother, and a son.
Best will play the boxing legend. Joseph will play his rival, heavyweight champion Sonny Liston. Nicknamed “The Bear,” Liston had been considered unbeatable until he lost the title in 1964 to loud-mouthed underdog Muhammad Ali (then known as Cassius Clay).
Also previously cast are Omari Hardwick as Ali’s father, Cassius “Cash” Clay Sr., and Dana Gourrier as his mother, Odessa “Bird” Clay.
The Greatest is produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, which has an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment, a Universal Music Group partner, and Grace: A Storytelling Company.
Watkins, Jordan and Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo executive produce alongside Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, Authentic Brand Group’s Corey Salter, Marc Rosen and Matthew Gross, Roc Nation, Michele Anthony, Boyd Muir and Josh Wakely via his Grace: A Storytelling Company. Co-executive producing is David Blackman for Polygram.
Joseph can currently be seen in Sony comedy One Of Them Days opposite Keke Palmer and SZA. He’s perhaps known best for his role as the lead patriarch Jerome Saint in FX’s hit series Snowfall. He also made his directorial debut on the show, and received 2 NAACP Image Award nominations for supporting actor and directing, as well a BET Award nomination for his performance. He also produced and starred in the 2023 Sundance pic To Live and Die and Live. Other recent TV credits include The Royal, FX’s Justified: City Primeval and Max’s Tacoma FD. Joseph is repped by Gersh, Entertainment 360 and Fox Rothschild.
